Take control of your pension funds
- Have you lost track of old pension plans?
- Do you have old pension funds from insurance companies or previous employers?
- Is the investment performance below par?
- Are you concerned about whether your former company or provider are/will be still around to pay your pension?
- Would you like to know if your pension is on the right track?
If you’ve answered YES to any of these it may be time for you to take control of your pension funds.
We find that many people have a collection of plans and policies collected over the years, some with just a small amount in, others maybe in funds that were the flavour of the month, or the default fund from their former employer’s scheme. Some will have plans with insurance companies that no longer exist and may have lost track of where their plan is.
As pension transfer specialists we also have the expertise and knowledge to advise on the pros and cons of their existing pension plans – and whether a transfer to another scheme might be in their interests. Many modern pension contracts offer lower charges than older contracts, together with wider investment options and greater flexibility on taking benefits.
One of the key aspects of making pension planning work is to have a clear investment strategy. Juniper are firm advocates of asset allocation as the best means of maximizing returns over the long term by spreading the investment risk. This means investments allocated across different types of asset classes in line with an individuals understanding and acceptance of investment risk.
For some people consolidating some or all their funds into one scheme with a clear overall investment strategy gives them an ideal opportunity to take control of the funds – and helps give them a clearer picture of whether their funds are on track to give them the retirement they need.
Whilst for others the best advice could be to leave some funds where they are, maybe because of valuable guarantees, availability of higher tax free cash or transfer penalties.
